The Astrology of Big L.

Image
I wouldn't be a true Harlem girl if I didn't represent Harlem's own Lamont Coleman, also known as Big L. L was one of hip-hops most vibrant storytellers and his chart is literally overflowing with creativity and artistic vision. Born May 30th, 1974, in Harlem, New York, L's dominant element is air. This isn't surprising since astrologically air is associated with mental perception and expression. L's Sun was in mercurial Gemini (ruled by Mercury) trine Pluto in Libra. He literally lived in his mind and words/communication were very much linked to his life force (Sun) Pluto/Sun aspects give one a magnetism that cannot be ignored and a strong desire to delve into deeper dimensions of darkness. L's track "Devil's Son" is a prime example of the dark, gritty, plutonian energy that could be felt in some of his music. Two things jumped out at me when I looked at his chart: His Mercury in sensitive/moody Cancer square Pluto, conjunct Saturn...

The Astrology of Tupac

Image
Tupac’s birthday was upon us on the 16th of June. I decided to take a peek to see what I could pick up on astrologically. Since there is no birth time for ‘Pac there’s been some debate on what sign his natal Moon is in. Is it fiery Aries or sensitive Pisces? Emotionally Tupac was both sensitive  and  fiery. His short fuse and warrior spirit would certainly be fitting of an Aries Moon, yet his poetry, spiritual/mystical beliefs (He was a strong believer in astrology) and strong connection to the divine feminine (women) points to a Pisces Moon. I’ve given him the ambiguous noon as a birth time since I don’t have one. This gives him a moon in the early degree of Aries, 2 degrees to be exact. Air is the strongest element in Tupac’s chart. His Sun, Mercury, Venus and the asteroid Ceres are all in Gemini as well as the Arabian part of fortune. (That’s the little circle with the “X” in the center) Those with Air strong in their charts have a strong desir...

The Astrology of Prince

Image
Anyone who knows me knows what a massive Prince fan I am. I’ve been meaning to write something about his chart but felt too overwhelmed shortly after his passing. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since he left us. This post was inspired by a series of dreams I had about him. I intuitively pulled a few tarot cards as well…   I – 8 of Pentacles Reversed Prince Rogers Nelson: Gemini Sun/Pisces Moon The very first card ( 8 of Pentacles ) is usually a warning about unethical business associates and shady deals in general, but mainly about over-extending one’s self. In the reverse position this card is associated with workaholic tendencies and neglecting one’s health. Saturn’s Rx phase during the time of his death could have been warning him to  slow  down. There have been numerous conspiracy theories surrounding Prince’s death and with  Neptune  tightly conjunct the Midheaven of his death chart, his passing is shrouded in mystery (Neptune) but ...

Nasty Girl: Lilith's Role in Prince's Music

Image
Lilith can often unleash obsession, lust and issues surrounding power. Black Moon Lilith is the feminine archetype of dark primal energy. She’s the seductress and the mystical side of sexuality.  In early Sumerian mythology Lilith was Adam’s first wife, and due to her refusal to submit to him (and patriarchy) she became the archetypal,  “Bitch Goddess.”:   A vicious vamp; both whore and  seductress , a femme fatal who was deadly and banished into the wilderness. Prince’s song,  “Irresistible Bitch,” (and to some degree,  “Little Red Corvette” ) speak of Lilith’s power, especially over men. We see Lilith’s stamp on his track,  “Shockadelica,”  as well (Where Lilith takes form as a witch), the ultimate Lilith anthem,  “Pussy Control,”   and  “Darling Nikki,”  where Lilith unleashes her sexual prowess (and devices) on Prince after luring him to her castle. Once again, Lilith’s mark can be heard on Vanity 6’s,  “...

Lamar Odom and Bacchus' Return

Image
Note: This post was originally written October 16th, 2015.  "Bacchus," 1595, Caravaggio This morning I was shocked to hear that NBA player, Lamar Odom, had been rushed to the hospital after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel. He was found unresponsive four days later at 3:15 in the afternoon. Lamar’s issues with addiction have been in the public eye for quite some time. At the age of 12, Lamar lost his mother to cancer as well as his grandmother in 2004. Two years later, in 2006, his infant son died of sudden infant death syndrome. This man has been through so much. When I heard the news, I automatically thought of transiting Neptune in Pisces. For all  its spirituality and mysticism, Neptune has a dark side as well; from illusions to escapism and drugs, Neptune is also associated with mysterious circumstances. Lamar’s natal Neptune in Sagittarius is quite dominant in his chart. His Neptune opposes his Gemini Moon and squares Saturn. This is a strong ind...

The Astrology of Jean-Michel Basquiat

Image
I was having a conversation with a Capricorn friend about Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was a Capricorn as well, so I started talking about his artwork and creative expression. I don’t have a birth time for him, so I’m focusing on planetary aspects (not houses) I created his natal chart on the right. The inner ring is his natal chart and the outer ring are the transits that were taking place when he died at the age of 27 on August 12, 1988. There is no time of death, but his girlfriend at the time mentioned how Jean-Michel would sleep all day and she became worried when he didn’t come down by mid-afternoon. I chose the time above because transiting Vx (Vertex) was in Pisces right on his natal Moon. The Vertex is not a celestial body. It’s a mathematical point that often points to fated events that are beyond our control. The one thing that stood out for me when I was looking at his chart and transits, was the Arabian part of fortune. Also known as Arabic parts or lots, the...
